about

My reason for producing this album was to explore some folk songs, to interpret them and put them into a context that suited my style. However some of the songs were so beautiful that not much was needed.
I heard many of these songs as a child from my parents who had a folk band in the 70s.
For 'I held my love' I simply borrowed some of the words from 'The low lowlands of Holland' and created something new stemming from my string arrangements for the folk song. 'Neither fire bright nor candle light' is a further abstraction from this theme. 'Requiem waltz' is an original composition using some words from one of my mum's (Berlie Doherty) novels 'Requiem'.
On the physical CD I recorded a cover of Sandy Denny's "who knows where the time goes' but I couldn't include it on bandcamp.
